Barefoot at the beach for a cause!
Our RubyLove Girl of the month Megan is on a mission!
It’s been in the works for months, but it’s finally becoming a reality. On July 19th from 10:00 to 12 noon at the Boat Pavillion at Lake Forest Beach, Illinois, Megan is hosting a RubyLove fashion show to benefit “A Safe Place of Lake County“-a domestic violence shelter.
Megan came up with the idea a few months ago when she saw RubyLove in Seventeen magazine. She was in the middle of working on getting her girl scout gold award. And when she contacted me, I was very eager to help out.
The show will feature the entire RubyLove Reflection-Tees collection and promote the positive messages behind them. After the fashion show, everyone in the audience has the chance to make their own inspirational t-shirt. And they can also purchase RubyLove Reflection-Tees, which 30% of the proceeds will also be donated.
If you live near the Lake Forest area, I hope you’ll join Megan and have a fun afternoon at the beach for a good cause.

Meet the Real Mrs. Ruby Love
I was pleasantly surprised recently when I received an email from a woman whose real name is Ruby Love. Ruby came across my site while doing a search under her name. I had to know more about her, so we started to exchange email.
I soon found out, we had quite a few connections. Not only we’re born in the same month, her daughter’s middle name is also Ann. And Ruby is now volunteering in a pregnancy center…which gives me another resource for any baby questions.
I thought it’s only appropriate to feature Ruby as the RubyLove girl of the month…I think I may have to give her a special title though since she’s always going to be a RubyLove girl. : )
Here are some of the answers Ruby shared with me:
Ann: What city you do live in?
Ruby: St.Helens, OR soon to move to Columbia City, OR
Ann: How old are you Ruby?
Ruby: 54 will be 55 in May. Sure don’t feel that old.
Ann: What are your hobbies? what you are passionate about?
Ruby: I love to read. I’m in a book club. I love to go to Tea Houses, tea parties with my 2 granddaughters, and collect anything tea – cups, pots, infusers, types of tea. I am passionate about my relationship with Jesus Christ and serving Him in all I do.
Ann: Any charity organization or volunteer work you are involved with?
Ruby: I am very active in my church, love to sing, worship the Lord. We volunteered at a Christian camp for 2 years, and I work at a pregnancy center.
Ann: What are some of the things you’ve achieved that you’re most proud of?
Ruby: I’m very proud of my daughter and 4 grandchildren. I have been on a mission trip to Russia to do a 2 week camp for 100 orphans.
Ann: What is the best advice anyone has given to you that you’d like to share?
Ruby: Be yourself and be the best you can be.
Ann: What are some of the ways that you love yourself
Ruby: Taking time to relax and read my Bible daily.
Ann: Any role model in your life?
Ruby: My mom was a great roll model, and Christ.
Ann: What’s the most import lesson you’ve learned?
Ruby: To give of myself and always try to find the best in any situation.
Thanks Ruby for sharing with us! I hope we’ll keep in touch often.

Meet our RubyLove Girl!
RubyLove Girl- Megan Glynn (16, Lake Forest, IL)
It’s not déja vu, but our newest RubyLove Girl is also a 16-year old named Megan. An animal-loving silver-award girl scout from Lake Forest, Illinois. Megan contacted me a few weeks ago wondering if RubyLove can help her out with a fashion show she’s planning to benefit an organization that helps women victimized by domestic violence. After getting to know Megan, I knew sharing her story would be a great inspiration to others. Here are some questions I had for our RubyLove Girl and what she has to say:
Q:What are your hobbies? what you are passionate about?
A:I golf (on the Lake Forest High School golf team, Go Scouts!) I’m an animal advocate, I love to shop! I was a camp counselor at the inaugural summer of Game On! sports camp 4 girls and plan to continue with the camp for a long time to come! It was in being a counselor that I found my love of ultimate Frisbee. I try really hard to give the girls a positive role model. I’m really getting into writing and not to be a nerd, but school’s fun too! I also play tag with my 10 year old collie Max, he really understands the game!
Q:Tell me about your involvement with the girl scout and any special honor you want to mention.
A:I got my silver award freshman year (now I’m a junior), I collected donations for the Specialty Pure bread Rescue, where I got two of my cats, Sam and Macy. We rescued the other one from our front yard, Shadow. As a troop we go to soup kitchens and we’re actively involved in helping out A Safe Place. Right now, each girl is working really hard on their gold award.
Q:Which charity or organization you are involved with?
A:I’m involved with the Specialty Pure bread rescue, Lambs Farm (a community for adults with mental disabilities), A Safe Place, and Save a Pet ( local shelter).
Q:What are your goals, near future, or in life?
A: My near future goal is to go to college (Northwestern to be exact) and be a doctor just like my parents. My life goal is to help as many people in the world as possible, and to be an all around good person.
Q: What is he best advice anyone has given to you that you’d like to share?
A: As my dad always says, never miss the free throws. I took this as don’t over complicate things and just focus on one thing at a time.
Q: What are some examples of ways that you love yourself?
A: I work hard in school and I play hard when I’m having fun. To be completely honest, the real way I unwind is watching Family Guy with my cat Sam, it’s our favorite show. Now that Halloween’s quickly approaching, I love watching scary movies with my 11-year-old sister.
Q: Who’s the role model in your life?
A: My mom has always been my role model. She’s a really influential person not only in my life, but many others. She’s the best role model for strong women, she works hard all day and then comes home and takes care of her family. She’s the best mom anyone could ever ask for and the best person I can think of for a role model.
Q: What you’d like to be when you grow up?
A: I’m leaning towards doctor or something in genetics, but that could change, as long as I’m a good person and happy with who I am.
Thanks Megan! I love the last thing you said, “as long as I’m a good person and happy with who I am”. I am looking forward to planning the fashion show with you and share that with the RubyLove readers. Meet Megan, our RubyLove Girl!
I’m so happy and proud to introduce Megan as our very first RubyLove Girl of the Month! Megan came to my attention when she bought a LOVE YOURSELF tee for a friend in need of some encouragement.
“I’ve always wanted to make a difference in peoples lives” says Megan, a 16-year-old from Florida, “Recently I’ve become more inspired to help girls and young women to love themselves.”
At such a young age, Megan has learned the secret to a happy healthy life. She believes that if you don’t love yourself, it’s not possible to truly love anything or anyone else. Practicing that belief, she not only lives her life to its fullest. She also has opened her heart to those around her.
The best advice she has received is to live in the moment. Do as well as you can right now, so you can have as many options and opportunities as possible in the future. She took the advice to heart and ranked 16th out of over 500 students last year, taking all honors classes.
She admires anyone who isn’t afraid to be herself, such as America Ferrera, who is also a fan of RubyLove. By being herself, she is actively involved in the math club, tennis team, and going into her 11th year of dance. She also enjoys cleaning her room which makes her feel fresh and renewed!
Our RubyLove girl hopes to become a graphic designer or a teacher someday. She loves graphics and photography (as you can see her clever photo of her reflection!) And her goal in life is to be happy with her own accomplishments in life, and make a difference by helping others. For now, her goal is to graduate high school in the top 30 of her class. And continue to be there for her friends and family. I have a feeling she won’t have any trouble reaching those goals.
I must say that I was very impressed by Megan, not only of her accomplishments, but also her positive spirit. Her loving heart and generosity is truly deserving of this acknowledgment. And I hope her story has inspired you too. Congratulations Megan!
