Fashion Show Update

On July 19th, RubyLove Girl Megan hosted a fashion show at the Boat Pavillion at Lake Forest Beach, Illinois, to benefit  A Safe Place – a domestic violence shelter. It was an event that’s been in the works for months for Megan to earn her gold award from the Girl Scout. After many email exchanges and coordinating, we finally made it happen.
The show had a bit of a rough start due to bad weather, but many people still came in support of a good cause. It turned out to be a huge success! There were girls that ranged in age from 8 to 13, many moms came too. Megan also arranged for the girls to make their own inspirational shirts. And the RubyLove Reflection-Tees were a huge hit!
All the shirts modeled in the show were raffled off, and proceeds from the sales of the shirts were donated to A Safe Place. I’m so proud of Megan for pulling it off. Congratulations for a successful fashion show. Keep up the good work and your loving spirit.

BabyLove

It’s been a few weeks since my last update. It’s because the long awaited baby Oliver finally arrived on July 16th at 7:02 a.m.

He’s a healthy 8 lb. baby measuring 20.5 inches long with a full head of hair and long eye lashes.

These days, the RubyLove business is put on hold so I can focus on taking care of Oliver. He has been great, only cries a little to let me know when he is hungry or need his diaper changed. I feel overwhelmed with joy to have him, who bringing so much happiness and positive feelings. He has and will continue to bring inspirations, strength, and love to my life.

Barefoot at the beach for a cause!

Our RubyLove Girl of the month Megan is on a mission!

It’s been in the works for months, but it’s finally becoming a reality. On July 19th from 10:00 to 12 noon at the Boat Pavillion at Lake Forest Beach, Illinois, Megan is hosting a RubyLove fashion show to benefit “A Safe Place of Lake County“-a domestic violence shelter.

Megan came up with the idea a few months ago when she saw RubyLove in Seventeen magazine. She was in the middle of working on getting her girl scout gold award. And when she contacted me, I was very eager to help out.

The show will feature the entire RubyLove Reflection-Tees collection and promote the positive messages behind them. After the fashion show, everyone in the audience has the chance to make their own inspirational t-shirt. And they can also purchase RubyLove Reflection-Tees, which 30% of the proceeds will also be donated.

If you live near the Lake Forest area, I hope you’ll join Megan and have a fun afternoon at the beach for a good cause.

My Baby Shower!

Time has gone by so fast, I’m now less than 2 months from meeting my baby boy. And to celebrate his arrival, our backyard was transformed into the perfect location to host a baby shower on a beautiful Sunday afternoon.

*********************

We served fresh summer fruits and hand decorate cupcakes for the big day.

*********************

Upon arrival, the guests were asked to sign in on name tags that read “HELLO, I’M UNCLE…” and “HELLO, I’M AUNTIE…” And before they left the party, each of them receive a little blue tea light candle that we asked them to light when the baby is born, and to say a little birthday wish for him.

*********************

Meet the happy parents!

I’m really looking forward to introducing you to RubyLove’s new addition very soon!
And who knows, maybe I’ll be inspired to design a baby line too!

Sites I love

I recently came across 2 websites that whenever I visit them, they just make me smile. I love to entertain and enjoy looking at beautiful photos of party decor and accessories. When I found the site HOSTESS {with the mostess} I was in entertaining heaven.

This modern party website offers clever entertaining ideas, party themes, and fabulous gift ideas…all so pleasing to the eye for the modern day hostess.

Check out their Entertaining 101 section for ways to throw an eco-friendly party

*******************************************************************

Another site I love is Wallflour. For someone like me whose hobby is eating, I love knowing that someone else enjoys all aspects of food as much as I do. Just the home page design alone is enough to make my mouth water.

The personal voice from creator Camille makes you feel like you’ve been invited to an intimate dinner party. And for those good in the kitchen, you can dive in and try out the recipes. Or like myself who is better at imagining than actually making the dish, your taste buds will be awakened by curiosity.

Bon Appetit!

RubyLove in Green

RubyLove Green Girl Guide feature on Organic Cotton Graphic Tee

Our latest press comes from a great website called the Green Girl Guide that showcases companies that regularly make conscious choices socially and environmentally. The Green Girls scour the globe for the hottest earth friendly places and things in Beauty, Fashion and Lifestyle and call them out on GreenGirlGuide.com.

Rubylove’s “Love Life” Organic Reflection-Tees was mentioned in a story featuring Organic Cotton Message Tees. Read on:

GREEN GIRL LOVES: Organic Cotton Message Tees

April 13 2008
Studded or slashed, hip-length or cropped, with sleeves that range from dolman to deconstructed, t-shirts are ubiquitous. And though the bitchy message tee seems to have gone the way of that mesh number you rocked before you were old enough to know better, there are a few words of wisdom inked on organic cotton that we Green Girls are proud to wear. First up? The “vote” shirt from be present, a Colorado-based yoga clothing company that cleverly integrates the symbol for the wisdom-inspiring crown chakra into the “o.” (Because if you don’t get wise and vote, we don’t have a chance in hell. Inference is ours, not theirs.) And then there are the positive vibes we get from wearing “choose happiness” from Tees For Change, which donates to the American Forests’ Global ReLeaf, or “love life” from RubyLove Reflection-Tees, which prints their block letters backwards so you’re reminded of the affirmation every time you pass a mirror. And, not to get all gushy on you or anything, but the hearts-from-a-smokestack image from RE:VOLVE gives us hope for the future—without any words at all.

But the mother of all t-shirt innovation award has to be handed to Loomstate, which partners with Barneys New York this spring to launch the first-ever national t-shirt recycling program. Starting April 13th you can drop off your old tee at any Barneys location nationwide and get 20% off any Loomstate duds sold in the store. Loomstate will then “re-fashion” the tees to create a new, limited edition t-shirt collection that bows at Barneys for Holiday 2008 and donates to One Percent for the Planet.

Messaging aside, it’s a good thing to think about organic or recycled cotton when looking for a new shirt this season, considering it takes two-thirds of a pound of pesticide to manufacture a regular cotton t-shirt. And now that organic versions feature just as many bells, whistles and sassy sayings as their conventional cousins, well, why the hell not?

Welcoming Spring

Dear RubyLove Friends:

Spring is here! other than a bad case of allergies, I am really enjoying the warm morning light and flowers in the garden.

It’s been a great 2008 so far for RubyLove with lots of new projects in the works. I’m very happy to share with you all that I’m now 23-weeks pregnant and feeling great! I learned from my prenatal yoga class that the baby feels 80% of what I’m feeling, so it’s more important than ever to be happy and take good care of myself.

With being so busy with getting ready to welcome the new baby, I’ve switched my focus for RubyLove to be more on working with organizations that shares similar beliefs. And reach out to specific groups of people who can benefit from the Reflection-Tees.

I’ve also been spreading the word about RubyLove by expanding my press to blogs and links to other sites. I’m hoping to introduce the Reflection-Tees to more people and continue to make new friends along the way.
